Acid fast organisms... your reign of terror is over!

Enough is enough. I can't take this no more. After years of experiencing terrorism by Microbiology, today I have decided to return the favor. I am going to terrorize this subject by conquering one topic at a time. Today let's conquer acid fast organisms. These are those cells that stain red with Ziehl Neelsen stain.

If a heart meets with an accident in a round (coccus) road and its leg gets hurt, it would start crying. Wouldn't it?

The above image may help us to remember the following four acid fast organisms:
  1. Heart === Nocardia
  2. Round road === Rhodococcus
  3. Leg === Legionella
  4. Cry === Cryptosporidium parvum cyst

After admission to the hospital, the heart has SEPSIS

Streptococcus
Enterococcus
Pneumococcus
Staphylococcus
Isospora belli
Sarcocystis

Later it was found that the sepsis was due to
BAD CLAM

  • Botulism
  • Anthrax
  • Diphtheria
  • Clostridium
  • Corynebacterium
  • Listeria
  • Monocytogenes

Others that stain with Ziehl Neelsen stain are as follows:

Bismuth poisoning

Lead poisoning

Tetanus

Taenia saginata

Hydatid cysts
